I've seen this floating around on Facebook since last night, looks like the NHRA isn't very happy with the guys from Street Outlaws. I've seen posts from Big Chief, so I'm guessing all the other regulars who hold licenses received them as well. Tuffenuff, who is from Chicago and was only on one episode, also posted that he got one. So looks like NHRA isn't messing around with this and sent them to everyone they could.

This is the letter that Big Chief posted on his Facebook:

Kinja'd!!!

NHRA was founded in 1951 by Wally Parks in an effort to provide an alternative to drag racing enthusiasts who were, at the time, racing illegally on public streets. Today, that basic initiative remains HNRA's primary mission. Your participation in the show, which promotes and glorifies illegal street racing is directly at odds with this mission.

Future participation in the show or any shows of this nature may result in an indefinite suspension of your NHRA Competition License.

I know it's all staged bullshit (if anyone reading this didn't, how?) but it's still promoting it. I agree 100% with the NHRA.

I am in no way a fan of Street racing. But street outlaws is not even street racing. Its all show the roads are shut down and they have medial folks on hand, just like what you have at a NHRA track. Do you really think a reality show would take a liability risk and have real street racing for TV? I can see the NHRAs point but I do see a ton of negative backlash from car folks towards the NHRA which doesn't help them in the long run. Its a damned if you do damned if you don't situation for the NHRA IMHO.

I guess it sends a bad message, but anybody stupid enough to think a Discovery show isn't staged, shouldn't be driving at all because their observation skills are null.

I have to agree with the NHRA, their whole purpose and the reason they formed was to get racing of the streets. I also see their reasoning when you see their logo on these cars racing "illegally" (the show is clearly staged, I've never seen a more well lit "street") and the message it could be sending to younger viewers.

Good. I've never watched the show, because I don't want to line the pockets of these sub-humans.

and yes I know it's staged but it still gives the wrong message

The key point though is that it glorifies street racing, and encourages it, which is counter to NHRA's stated goals and mission. Fuck the backlash, taking the moral high ground is the correct move. It's the same reason why I had no problem with the harsh sentence Afroduck got and why I can't stand Alex Roy, sure they didn't hurt anyone but by blatantly advertising their actions they are in essence issuing a challenge to others, who could very easily hurt someone. Fuck these people, they're bad for car culture, they're bad for car enthusiasts, and they're bad for legitimate auto racing.

It's the premise, really. Would a show about beating your wife and children sensless be okay, just because it's faked?

What really stuns me is the fact that anyone, including the NHRA, actually believed there is ANY actual, uhhhhh "street racing" in this show supposedly based entirely around street racing. Come on guys, give me a fucking break. Street outlaws isn't about street racing anymore than "the Devil's Own" was about "outlaw motorcycle gangs" or "Moonshiners" was about moonshining. Hell, I'm more likely to believe in the mermaids or the prehistoric shark than any of the rest of this crap. It's entertainment (at best).... not reality. I mean, come on, Richard Rawlings is a character on Fast and Loud, there's not anyone that didn't know Dennis was going to buy that F50 from the get-go, was there?

I've long suspected my very much so enjoyed Moonshiners show involves making moonshine and having it properly disposed of under police supervision as soon as it leaves the "hidden still site" Or it doesn't produce at all and it's just water coming out.

Moonshining was legalized a few years ago. So they can make all of it they want, they can even sell it if they have a license.

That's Andrade's letter, btw.

The NHRA could have handled this a lot better in my humble opinion.

Sending letters like this seems to be abrasive for no reason.

Like it or not, Street Outlaws has a lot of viewers (way more than the NHRA events), a stronger social media presence (Murder Nova has more likes than the NHRA itself, by a lot) and it's putting tires on pavement at local tracks that are in desperate need of racers. Farmtruck and Azn may do wacky stunts that are obviously fake but it's better than watching the same sponsor-filled post race interview for the hundredth time.

I enjoy drag racing and like some of what the NHRA provides. I can't help but think that there must have been a way for SO and the NHRA to work SOMETHING out to be mutually beneficial.

Yeah, but they present it as street racing and try to make it look real, so it's definitely promoting and glorifying street racing. I'm with the NHRA on this one.

No it was not. You cannot distill liquor in the United States without a legit distillery. Just because it's labeled as "Moonshine" doesn't mean it was distilled in the woods by a random dude. You or I can't walk into our back yard and set up a still.

You have to get licensed, you have to pay taxes on it, it has to meet standards of operation.

The "Moonshine" you're seeing in the store is legit liquor that just so happens to not be aged. Which has previously been a requirement of Whiskey on the shelf at the store.

There is always a subset of car folks how actively support and do street racing, most of witch are young folks getting into the hobby. I don't support it but I understand the effects of the backlash. I am not a street racer or supporter by any means. I moderate a Southwest based racing forum that has been huge in the SW us for about 10 years now . We took took a very anti street racing stance due to bad press from local news and because of it got a ton of backlash from the local community which eventually caused a schism that ended with the pro street racers branching out and build a new series of forums which fractured events and the community. Granted it is an apples to oranges comparo. I think the NHRA was right in taking the high ground but I wonder if there isn't also something that can be done to bring the street racers into the fold so to speak.

The NHRA doesn't care if it's real or not. It's promoting illegal drag racing which is the exact opposite of what the NHRA was started for.

As NHRA Competition license holders, they are held to the license agreement which clearly states that what they are conveying is against the Rules and Regulations set forth by the NHRA licensing committee. They are ambassadors of the NHRA and, when in public, should conduct themselves accordingly. The NHRA has every right to remove their licenses as they are in violation of the license agreement.

Whether or not the "racing" that happens in this show is real or staged with a full crew of emergency personnel is inconsequential.

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I get that. My main contention is only that if you're stupid enough to believe they're really "street racing" then you're probably:

A) already a "street racer"

2) so dumb you have no idea what a NHRA license is or what it means to have one or lose one and, finally...

•) you should turn off Forza, throw down your controller and grab a wrench!

That being said, it is interesting to conjecture about just what "Chief" and all the 405 List guys are gonna do. There's lotsa money to be made in "reality" tv catering to ding-dongs.

Just look at Pawn Stars. "Chumlee" has an Aston Martin. Lmao
